Nick Woltjen’s unique skill set allows him to comprehensively manage complex acute and chronic skin disorders. His passions include skin cancer evaluations, prevention of skin cancers, and surgical and medical treatments of skin cancers. Also, he has a remarkably vast experience with management of premalignant lesions, rashes, psoriasis, and lupus. Lastly, Nick provides comprehensive nonsurgical therapy for hair loss, including laser therapy, and PRP injections for alopecia. Most noteworthy, Nick’s approach to Dermatology starts with establishing a relationship with the patients he is privileged to meet.
The relationship begins with a friendly conversation, not a scalpel. After discussing patient needs and concerns, a comprehensive plan is formulated with the patient, not just for the patient. Furthermore, Nick provides surgical management of skin cancers and disease for the trunk, arms and legs. For more aesthetically sensitive areas, including the face, breast, and hands, Nick and Dr. Durkin work together to provide the best possible synergy between cancer care and aesthetic outcome. Above all, Nick and Dr. Durkin both pride themselves on collaboration, transparency, and educating our patients in all options.
They work together on complex cases to offer comprehensive dermatology and plastic surgery services to our patients. Likewise, our patients enjoy the added convenience of being able to see both providers in the same office.
Nick Woltjen is a nationally certified physician assistant specialized in dermatology. Firstly, Nick grew up in Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Riverview High School in Oakmont, Pennsylvania.
As an athlete and a scholar, Nick flourished in both mathematics and biological sciences, and was a member of the Drama Club and Key Club. He was also Captain of his Varsity Golf Team. After High School, he attended Robert Morris University on academic scholarship, majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science. Nick graduated magna cum laude with a Masters degree in Information Systems Management. While excelling in the digital industry, Nick felt that his potential was incompletely realized in this field, and he sought to have a more relationship based career. Therefore, he decided to follow in the footsteps of his grandfather who practiced medicine for over 50 years as a family physician.
For these reasons, Nick Woltjen enrolled in the Physician Assistants program at Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he earned his second Masters degree in physician assistant studies. It was during this time that Nick developed a deep interest for treating skin cancer and skin disorders.
After graduating in the top of his class, Nick Woltjen was offered a position as a Dermatologic Physician Assistant at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center (UPMC). During his tenure at UPMC, Nick functioned independently as a comprehensive provider of dermatologic services. He routinely collaborated with thought leaders in Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery at UPMC, including Dr. Suzan Obagi. He also actively participated in the training and development of Physician Assistants and Dermatologists training at the University of Pittsburgh.
Nick Woltjen relocated to Vero Beach to join the Ocean Drive Plastic Surgery team and to be closer to his immediate family. He is looking forward to spending more time with his brother’s family, mother, and especially his Godson Conner. Nick loves to travel and spend time with his family and friends. Furthermore, you might see him at the dog park with his dog Webster, attending his nephew’s soccer games, and taking advantage of the many scuba diving sites Florida has to offer. Finally, Nick has been an active member of Verona-Rosedale Kiwanis Club in Pittsburgh for over 14 years, which is part of an international service organization helping children around the world.
He plans to continue his service to the community while here in Vero.
