APRN
Vero Beach has been home to my large multigenerational family for many decades. I began my medical career here as a nursing assistant in the Intensive Care Unit at the former Indian River Medical Center in 1997 as I have always felt that medicine was more of a calling than a career.
The privilege of service to our fellow humans is a passion of mine, as is my desire for excellence in my professional endeavors. After becoming an RN in 1999, during my tenure in cardiac catheterization laboratory (aka the cath lab), I was profoundly impacted by the potency of service provided by minimally invasive means. This experience galvanized my desire to provide interventional based therapies rather than only diagnostic therapies.
In 2009, I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner program. I was humbled by being chosen and elected to Sigma Theta Tau Nursing Honor Society Member, and I serve as a proud member of that organization to this day. I returned to the emergency department with the goal of elevating patient’s lives with my new skills. The desire to optimize my skill sets led me to serve for fourteen years as an advanced practice nurse in the Emergency Department at Holmes Regional Medical Center. As an advanced practice nurse at Holmes Regional Medical Center, I expanded my practice by performing advanced procedures and was one of the preceptors responsible for training incoming providers to the department. While I enjoyed the emergency department setting, I did not feel as fulfilled there as I did before due to my experience with catheterization. As an individual patient, I personally received an injectable based therapy while on vacation up north with my family. When I saw what that procedure did for my self-image, confidence, and overall sense of being, it was nothing short of an epiphany. I wanted to elevate the experience of life, not just prolong it. I want to use my expertise, my will, and my resources to elevate my patient’s life experience. The realm of nonsurgical facial therapy, as well as nonsurgical body contouring offered me an avenue to passionately pursue my goals.
As I join the Ocean Drive team, I have years of experience with laser resurfacing, neuromodulators such as Botox®/Xeomin®/Dysport®/Jeuveau®, dermal fillers (Juvederm®, Restylane®, Radiesse®, Renuva®), and body contouring (Emsculpt®, CoolSculpting,® BodyTone®), and medical grade skin therapy. I am beyond thrilled to join Drs. Durkin and Chim, and to serve as an aesthetic nurse practitioner under their guidance. It is my goal to provide the highest quality outcomes in the safest possible fashion in the most comfortable and opulent environment available. I hope to meet you soon.

Registered Nurse
Melissa in an RN, BSN with a background in pediatrics. She was primarily a NICU nurse earning her RNC-NIC (Certification in NICU nursing) in 2016. She also worked in the PICU and CICU in the 11 years she spent at Children’s Hospital Colorado.
She moved to Vero Beach in October of 2018 with her family and worked as a travel nurse for pediatric ICU’s before coming to ODPS in May of 2019. Melissa had her own experience in plastics with breast reconstruction following a breast cancer diagnosis and with that she found a passion for plastic surgery and the renewed confidence it can give patients. She loves seeing breast cancer patients on their journey to reconstruction as well as cosmetic surgical patients as they find renewed vibrance in their appearance. She was excited to find this opportunity to work at ODPS as a nurse for Dr. Durkin. She loves meeting with all his surgical patients at their pre-operative appointment and then following through with them to surgery and their post-operative care. Melissa and her family made the move to Florida after spending their entire lives in CO. One of her son’s has a heart condition that would be improved by moving to sea level. The move has made an astounding positive effect on his health by removing him and the strain on his heart from the high altitude of Colorado. He is feeling great here, so it definitely was the right choice. They chose Vero Beach because they loved the town on their many visits here seeing their best friends over the past 5 years. She is loving getting to see them on a regular basis now since they now live a mile apart! Melissa and her husband have 4 boys all of which live here except the 2nd oldest who chose to stay in CO to go to college. She also has three crazy dogs which she just adores, a black Lab, a lab/terrier mix and a Vizsla. She also has an amazing husband that she met when she was only 17! They have been married for now for 25 years! They love adventuring and spending time together and what better place to do that then the southern coast of Florida!
Mellissa and her family have been enjoying getting to know Vero and the surrounding areas. They love to boat, jet ski and just hang out at the beach! They will always be Coloradoans at heart but are more than happy to have traded the mountains and the cold for the ocean and the warm weather. Melissa and her husband as well as their best friends are all die-hard loyal Denver Broncos fans. You will find us somewhere every single week watching the game. Melissa still has her season tickets and vows to attend at least one game in person each year. There is nothing quite like Broncos fans and Mile High Stadium. Good or bad they will always bleed orange and blue! Melissa loves working with the fabulous Dr Durkin and his very talented staff as well as our amazing patients!
