Chose a Different Angle

Dr. Alan Durkin is a double board-certified plastic surgeon with the American Board of Surgery (ABS) and American Board of Plastic & Reconstructive Surgeon. During your consultation, Dr. Durkin will evaluate your current nose and determine the best shape for you by creating your new look via a computer imaging program. The doctor can make adjustments in the computer program for shape, size, and positioning adjustments. This program offers you an opportunity to see what you will look like after your surgery. Don’t let your nose keep you from leading your best life. Choose Ocean Drive Plastic Surgery for your Rhinoplasty in Vero Beach, Florida.

What is Rhinoplasty?

One of the most popular cosmetic procedures for men and women is the ‘nose job’ or Rhinoplasty.

It is a surgery that changes the size, shape, and structure of your nose. Rhinoplasty is purely an aesthetic procedure and should not be confused with Septoplasty, which is the surgical correction of a deviated septum and performed to improve breathing.

How Rhinoplasty Differs From Men and Women

While Rhinoplasty is a versatile cosmetic procedure, anatomical nuances differentiate the surgical approach between men and women. For example, most male noses are broader with a more prominent bridge compared to female noses. Also, the tip of the nose in men is often less elevated than a woman’s. There are also specific Rhinoplasty techniques for patients of Asian or African descent that require surgeons with a specialized skill set.

Rhinoplasty Procedure

Your rhinoplasty surgery is uniquely tailored at Ocean Drive Plastic Surgery, and Dr. Durkin will personally design your surgery to meet your specific needs. Your surgery is performed as an outpatient procedure, but you are given a local anesthetics, and you will need someone to drive you home after your surgery.

Dr. Durkin will perform your Rhinoplasty with either an open or closed approach. The closed option includes two incisions on the inside of each nostril, so there is no scar. An open incision places the cut on the tissue at the base of your nose and inside each nostril. The open approach allows the doctor full access to your underlying nose structure.

Rhinoplasty Recovery

Once your nose is reshaped, Dr.Durkin will close your incision with dissolvable stitches and secure your nose with a cast or splint. You will remain in your splint for at least one week or until your follow-up appointment. You are provided specific post-operative instructions to help reduce swelling and bruising. You will need one to two weeks of downtime, but often patients return to work after ten days.

Rhinoplasty Results

Depending on how much work you had done, it could take one to three years for the complete swelling to dissipate. However, most patients are able to see significant improvement after two weeks and continuous improvement in appearance over the following months. Your results are permanent; however, you can still expect the normal aging process to continue.
