A HALO Laser treatment is made possible by the Halo Hybrid Fractional Laser system by Sciton and it is truly in a league of its own. This is the world’s first ablative and non-ablative laser combined into one handheld device.
This allows the laser to target various types of cosmetic concerns in one treatment without the traditional pain and downtime of ablative lasers.
The HALO laser emits energy that passes from the outer-epidermal layer of the skin down to the dermis through narrow channels. The outer layer becomes vaporized or “ablated”. However, since the energy is delivered in narrow microchannels, nearby skin cells remain untouched and thus, healing time is quicker than with full-field ablative lasers, where the total skin area is vaporized. Furthermore, the energy that is delivered down to the dermis, stimulates collagen production. So patients receive the benefits of ablative laser (skin renewal) and collagenesis with less downtime and pain than with other lasers.
HALO Laser is also used to treat brown spots on arms, hands, décolleté, and body.
Almost any area of the body can be treated with Halo including face, neck, chest, arms and hands.

I always tell my Vero Beach HALO laser patients that I want them to have better looking skin a decade from now than they do today. One of the ways to achieve this is to repeat Halo treatments throughout the years. Although each patient is unique my general rule of thumb is as follows.
I recommend 1-2 Halo laser treatments within the first 6 months depending on the treatment goals. Thereafter, I recommend at least one per year. Remember that Halo stimulates collagen and elastin fibers. These two things help hold up your skin and plump it up. You want to start compounding those results and that is achievable by repeating Halo every year. And don’t forget at Ocean Drive Plastic Surgery in Vero Beach, we can customize your Halo laser treatment to fit your needs.
For instance, if you want a more aggressive treatment one session and a mild treatment the next, HALO can be customized to do just that and still provide noticeable results!
Thankfully, no. Traditional laser was not a fun process for the patient. The good news is Halo is nothing like that. Following their Halo Laser treatment, our Vero Beach patients tell me the pain is a 1 or 2 out of 10. Typically, I will have a conversation with the patient throughout the entire treatment.
Some of our patients will feel their skin get very warm during treatment and this lasts about 2 hours. The good news is we provide cooling throughout the entire treatment to make the treatment as comfortable as possible. In the unlikely event that you experience discomfort during Halo we utilize PRO-NOX. PRO-NOX delivers a mixture of 50% oxygen and 50% nitrous oxide. This device is a 100% patient-controlled form of inhaled anesthesia. Simply breathe deep and in seconds there will be immediate relief of pain and anxiety. We are proud to offer this to our patients at no additional charge as part of all of our Halo packages if needed. The Pro-Nox anesthesia leaves your body in just a few minutes after treatment. You can continue your day immediately after treatment.
Most of our Vero Beach Halo laser patients will have a sunburn like appearance to their skin for 2-3 days followed by a bronzing of the skin.
A few days later the bronzing will start to shed as you wash your face once or twice a day. The first couple days following treatment, you may experinece some swelling usually around the eyes, and usually is most noticeable in the morning after waking up. However, there should be zero pain during recovery. We provide all your aftercare products as part of your Halo laser package including MedSpa grade moisturizer, face wash, and sunscreen. We only use physician grade post care products from our Vero Beach Med Spa. The aggressiveness of your treatment dictates the type of recovery you will have. Usually patients are done with recovery between 5 to 7 days for a typical Halo treatment. Sometimes shorter, sometimes longer if less or more aggressive.
We will see you in the office the next day. This will allow us to evaluate your skin and adjust your recovery program if needed. Also, we provide you with a complimentary Red LightStim treatment that helps accelerate your recovery. This painless treatment is done in our luxurious MedSpa and lasts about 20 to 30 minutes. Red LightStim has been proven to shorten your recovery time by reducing inflammation and increasing blood flow to the skin. We are with you throughout your entire recovery. All of us at Ocean Drive Plastic Surgery have been trained in laser services and have helped countless Vero Beach Halo laser patients navigate through their recovery. In the unlikely event of a post-laser complication you have Nick Woltjen, PA-C and Alan Durkin, MD available to assist.
The day of Halo laser treatment you will arrive first for your nursing appointment. The nurse will have you review the consents and aftercare guidelines. Then a powerful topical numbing agent is applied to the treatment areas for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
You will then be able to relax in one of our patient rooms. Feel free to bring a book or iPad to pass the time. After the numbing is complete your face will be cleaned and then you will be ready for the treatment. The Halo treatment of the face can be as quick as 15 minutes depending on the settings. Once completed, we will review your aftercare, and have you schedule a follow up appointment for the next day.
This is part of our Halo+ package which includes PRP, two Red LightStim treatments to speed your recovery, and a Signature Ocean Drive Plastic Surgery Facial at our Vero Beach MedSpa 60 to 90 days post Halo to really get your skin glowing.
Not all PRP is created equal and we utilize a system that has been proven to have a platelet recovery of more than 80% with a concentration of more than 1.6 times that of the baseline. Although there is currently no agreed upon consensus of the correct concentration of platelets there are studies showing that too high a concentration of platelets can have negative effects. This is why we have chosen a PRP system that is based on data, journal published studies, and real-life experience. Your body’s own PRP is applied directly the skin during the Halo treatment.
This will help accelerate your healing, but the big benefit is it will help turbocharge your results by further boosting your body’s own collagen. While you are numbing for the Halo treatment the nurse will draw just one tube of blood from your right or left arm. Obtaining PRP takes about 10 minutes in a completely closed system. The closed system means that from blood draw, to centrifuge, to injections your blood and platelets are never exposed to the environment. This is yet another reason why our system is safe and effective. Halo+ can be added on to your treatment the day of your procedure.
